Around DFW, we're right in the middle of peak pest season, and we have a pretty good idea what's been bugging many of you lately...

Ants.

Whether they're marching across the kitchen counter or popping up in the bathroom overnight, ants are one of the most common calls we're getting right now.

The good news? A few simple habits can help keep them outside where they belong.

Why Are Ants Coming Inside?

During the Texas summer, ants are looking for two things:

💧 Water

🍽️ Food

Even tiny crumbs, a pet's water bowl, or a small plumbing leak can be enough to attract them.

Once one ant finds a food source, it leaves a scent trail for the rest of the colony to follow—which is why a few ants can quickly become dozens.

A Few Things You Can Do

✔ Wipe down counters and sweep up crumbs.
✔ Store pantry items in sealed containers when possible.
✔ Fix dripping faucets or plumbing leaks.
✔ Trim branches or shrubs that touch the house.
✔ Keep mulch and leaf litter away from the foundation.

These small steps can help reduce what attracts ants in the first place.

Following their trail is often half the battle. It helps us figure out exactly where they're coming from and how they're getting inside.

Don't Forget the Mosquitoes

It's been hot lately—but the mosquitoes haven't gone anywhere.

Even during extreme heat, mosquitoes continue to breed anywhere they can find standing water.

Take another quick walk around your yard and check:

• Flower pots
• Buckets
• Kids' toys
• Bird baths
• Low spots
• Gutters

A few minutes outside can help reduce mosquito breeding around your home.
